New Varsity Field Hockey Coach Excited to Develop Confident Players On and Off the Field

Can you share a little about your background and your path to Donegal Field Hockey?

I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and went to Wake Forest University in North Carolina. I heard about Donegal High School after seeing the team’s success under Coach Shellenberger. Donegal has produced a ton of great field hockey players like Kirstin & Laura Gebhart and Abby Hoover. I coached at Temple and my teams competed against those alumni. Their hustle and work ethic represented something special about this town. I'm hoping I can help develop players so that they can have the opportunity to also play collegiate field hockey.

What else attracted you to Donegal for this opportunity?

Pennsylvania and the LL League has some of the best High School field hockey in the nation! After growing up in an area that wasn't popular for field hockey, this is an amazing opportunity for me to coach so many young players who have a similar passion for this exciting sport. Athletic Director Mr. Kennedy, the Athletic Staff, and the DFH Booster Club have been extremely supportive and helpful to see that our FH program has everything we need to be successful. I’m excited to be at Donegal!

Tell us a little about the team and the upcoming season.

We are excited for the season to begin as we know every game will be competitive! We have a strong team that's focused on being aggressive and attack-minded, while being strategic about our passing and team defense.

Every game should be a battle! Our Senior night will be Thurs, October 10 at 7:00 pm against rival Etown. We will be honoring our five seniors, Sarah, Morgan, Kiera, Gianna, and Lydia.

What goals have you shared with the team this year?

My goal is to put every player in a position to succeed and play their very best every day. I'm excited that we have some new athletes on the teams and that our Junior High has enough players for two teams!

We have a great coaching staff who have a lot to teach and we are working hard to encourage each athlete to give their best to help the team. We hope that each player can learn new skills and learn different things from each coach that will help them on the field.

We are also focused on teaching life skills, such as teamwork, discipline, second effort, bouncing back from mistakes, taking risks, communication, setting goals, and many more concepts that will help them develop as confident young women off the field.

Joining Coach Misselhorn this year as Varsity coaches are Assistant Coach Jessi Swingle, who teaches at DIS and played at Mansfield; Volunteer Assistant Coach Casey Umstead, a Defender on the USA National Team and with two National Championships at UConn. Volunteer Assistant Coach Kayla Waldrup returns on staff as she was part of the PIAA State Championship team from last year. We have two new Junior High Coaches, Kayla Forrey, a Donegal Alumnus, and Krista Page, who works with USA Field Hockey.
