Donegal Welcomes New AD

DAC extends a warm welcome to new Athletic Director Frank Hawkins who came to Donegal this summer for the 20-21 school year after five years as AD at West York. He takes over for Ron Kennedy who retired from Donegal after 24 years as AD to become the executive director of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

Hawkins attended Red Lion Christian Academy and graduated in 1995 as the school's all-time leading boys' basketball scorer with 2,573 points (he's now second all-time). He spent six years in the Navy, earned multiple college degrees and spent time in the business world. He later became a JV boys' basketball coach at West York in 2013 before being hired as athletic director in 2015.

Hawkins said he was the second Black student to attend Red Lion Christian and the first to graduate from the school. In recent years, he was one of only two Black athletic directors in the YAIAA along with York High's Jeff White.

He believes his experiences— growing up in a city, going to private school, being in the military  — have helped him relate to a diverse group of students. At West York, he developed strong relationships with student-athletes and said that’s been the most memorable part of his job.
"I've run into alumni while on vacation," Hawkins said. "And the best thing is when they say, 'You were one of the best parts of being at West York.' It's about having that lasting impact.”

Hawkins told the York Daily Record: “After communicating with (Donegal Superintendent) Dr. Michael Lausch, it seemed as if he and I had the same values and goals. And the hospitality and greetings I received from the staff was great. It opened my eyes that this would be a fit. It felt like home.”
